As we know that basically, there are two system for the stepper motor control, a open loop control system and the other is closed loop control system. We can say there is better performance for the closed loop control system, experience tell us, compared with the open loop system, the closed loop system gives higher acceleration, in higher efficiency value, less position errors, lower heat and less noise when function. While the consumption of the two kind system stepper motor is also different, keep the same move profile repeatedly, we will find the closed loop type stepper motor’s consumption is only about third as much as the open lope system. Of course, for some application, there is no need for a closed type stepper motor, an open loop drive is better in consideration of the cost.
